Thank God that there's still rock bands who allow girls to sing. I'm pissed off that there's not more of this. Anyways, I like The Golden Chariots of Mars. I like their name, too. It's mysterious. It's strange. It makes me wonder what I'm getting into when I pop this CD into my stereo.
The Golden Chariots of Mars are from Minnesota. Now, before you go judging them on that fact - this about this: Didn't Bob Dylan, Prince, Husker Du, and the Replacements come from Minnesota? Ohhh, I think I'm right! So, if you're judging this band solely on that fact, then you're a discriminator, and I don't like you anymore. For all of you other people out there, let's kick back and enjoy this album.
My current favorite songs on this album are 1955, Halloween, and Keep on. I can't explain why I like them so much - I just do. I think that for each person, it's a different experience. This band has something that's great - and you need to get a hold of it to know what I'm talking about.

Minnesotas The Golden Chariots of Mars claims that theyve got sixty songs under their belt. Here they offer a glimpse of thirteen of those tunes. Led by female lead singer Catie Larson, The Golden Chariots of Mars are sort of a female and less distorted and heavy version of The Pixies writing angular guitar riffs that juxtapose their enigmatic song structures. Above the crunchy guitars and truncated drums is a noodled bliss of melody that co-exists nicely. While not overly aggressive, their songs fit raging moods wellor at least their aftermaths.

The debut full-length album from this Minnesota quartet features one of the most pretentious names in the business. The music is also pretentiousbut pretty damn good, too. With haunting female vocals soaring over a steady rock beat, the band captures a psychedelic vibe that is taken up several notches with the use of a Hammond organ, a Felgemaker pipe organ, and a theremin. While the album opens with several slow, spacey songs reminiscent of Morcheeba, the later tracks are pure, gritty rock that sounds amazingly like the L.A. band, Mary's Danish. This is an incredible first album from a band with a boatload of talent and potential. The album art is great and the songs are pure. It's probably best to check this band out now before a major label signs the band and ruins it all. -Dug

Golden Chariots of Mars self-titled Magnetic Sea Sound Recordings This Minnesota quartet is fronted by singer Catie Larson. Her powerful voice is perfectly blended with the rock and roll riffs produced by the rest of the band. They have differently paced songs which showcases Larson's voice in multiple ways.
